How to Claim Land on CivSMP

Protect Your Builds with Land Claiming

Building without claiming is risky on a survival server. CivSMP uses a chunk-based claiming system that lets you fully protect your land from other players. Once claimed, only you and your trusted members can interact with your territory.

Important: You can only claim land in the Survival Worlds (Overworld and Nether). The area must be unclaimed wilderness.

What is a Chunk?

Claiming is chunk-based — meaning you claim whole 16x16 block areas called chunks. You cannot claim partial areas.

To see chunk borders in Java Edition: Press F3 + G to toggle chunk borders on your screen. This makes it easy to see exactly what you're claiming.

Step-by-Step: Setting Up Your Claim

Step 1 — Create your first claim

Stand in the chunk you want to claim and type:

/claim

This claims the chunk you're standing in. Give it a name straight away:

/claim setname <name>

Step 2 — Expand your claim

One chunk is rarely enough. To add more chunks to your claim, stand in an adjacent unclaimed chunk and type:

/claim addchunk

You can keep adding connected chunks to grow your territory over time.

Step 3 — Add friends to your claim

Playing with others? Add them as members so they can access your claimed land:

/claim add <player>

Members can interact with your claim — building, breaking, and using containers.

Step 4 — Manage your claim limit

You have a limit on the number of claims and chunks you can own. You can unlock more through various rewards, level-ups, and progression on the server. Check your current limit in your Player Profile menu.

Tips

• Claim your base before investing time building it
• Expand your claim in the direction you plan to build
• Make sure you trust anyone you add as a member — they have full access
• Unclaimed land is fair game — don't leave valuables in the wilderness
